#MirthMusicMon – The Greatest Little Hobbit of Them All

It was a sad weekend for nerds the world over who learned on Friday (or in the case of Australians, woke up to the news on Saturday) that Leonard Nimoy had passed away. For anyone who has been living under a rock for the past fifty years, Leonard Nimoy played Science Officer Mr Spock in Star Trek, both the TV shows and several of the movies (he even had a cameo in the JJ Abrams reboot in 2011). He was an actor, director, photographer, poet, and teacher, but he’ll always be known as the logical pointy-eared half-human, half-Vulcan.

In honour of Mr Nimoy, I have this fabulous little song that he recorded in 1967. It’s actually incredibly cringe-worthy, but glorious once you get past that. 😛

Since that is not actually the lasting memory anyone wants to have of Leonard Nimoy, here’s a compilation of Spock at his snarky, I mean, logical, best.

Join us over here for Mirth and Music Monday. Feel free to post your own things, too!

#MirthMusicMon – Mother & Son #MondayBlogs

I’m not 100% sure that my choice for the mirth part of Mirth and Music Monday this week will actually work outside of the context of the TV episode that it’s in, but I’m hopeful. This is from a classic Australian TV show from the 80s and early 90s called Mother & Son. Garry McDonald played Arthur Beare, who cares for his aging mother Maggie (played by Australian veteran of stage and screen, Ruth Cracknell). Maggie is beginning to suffer from dementia, and Arthur’s patience is constantly tested, though it’s always clear that he loves her deep down and only wants what’s best for her. There are some full episodes on YouTube (half an hour each); if you enjoy this, I recommend checking them out.

An instrumental version of this song was used in the opening credits of Mother & Son. It’s a sweet, old-timey song.

Feel free to join us for Mirth and Music Monday! Or check out what others are sharing. Our linky is here. I’m writing this on my lunch break, which is nearly finished, so I’d better go!

#MirthMusicMon – Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! #MondayBlogs

Really, it’s getting to the point where I should really be signing my Monday posts Edy rather than Emily, for it is he who finds me all my videos… (though I did find the Pirates of the Caribbean ones myself, ha). In case you didn’t get it from the title, this week’s Mirth and Music Monday is Wizard of Oz themed, though there is no Judy Garland to be seen.

I am told that the Muppets Wizard of Oz is not one of the best Muppets movies, but this song is in true cute Muppets style.

All I know about Full House is that the baby is played by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olson (I’m a couple of years younger than them, so really, the show is before my time), but this is very impressive.

That’s all we’ve got time for today, but be sure to tune in next week for more Mirth and Music to begin your week!

#MirthMusicMon – Popular Sayings

A very slap-dash MMM post today, and I’m relying on my other half’s good taste, since I haven’t even actually watched either video in its entirety. My Fair Lady rehearsals started tonight, and we didn’t finish up until 10pm. It takes me half an hour to drive back home, so it’s now quite late. Edy has pretty good taste, though, and I think these are pretty good.

MMM Linky is here. Like I said, this is a very slap-dash post tonight.

#MirthMusicMon – Pirates edition

So it’s Friday night and I’m going on holidays tomorrow and will have limited Internet access. That’s not stopping me from scheduling a Monday post however! To be honest, I was a bit stuck on what to use for today’s post, so I was just scrolling through YouTube’s “recommended for you” pages and after a couple of related videos, ended up here. Enjoy!

While I was at uni, the PotC soundtrack was a staple in my study music playlist. Nothing like some swashbuckling to get you in the mood to write art history or gender studies essays. Anyway, when I moved off campus and into a real house, my housemate at the time showed me this one. It takes a minute to get used to, but then it’s really cool!

Us MMMers hang out over at this linky. Feel free to join in! I’m off now to continue packing my bag (clothes that needed washing are finally dry, wheee!).

#MirthMusicMon – Isabella for next Disney Princess!

I was browsing Facebook on the weekend and one of the pages I follow linked to a story about a corgi who visited Disneyland. This is one post about it, though not the one I was reading. The one I was reading linked to another very cute Disneyland video, this one of a little girl totally putting Gaston in his place when she lined up for a photo and autograph. It’s awesome. Gaston is one of my favourite Disney villains, but he certainly needs a few more sassy little girls telling him off.

When I went to look up the video, I found this one made by the same person. This guy improvised a song about the incident. I always take my hat off to people who can come up with stuff off the top of their heads. I have a friend who does it a lot and I am eternally jealous.

As a bonus, here’s the original Gaston song.

Feel free to join in on Mirth and Music Monday and join us at the linky.

#MirthMusicMon – Epic Rap Battle and Surfing Seals

A little while ago, a friend/former housemate was showing me the Epic Rap Battles of History YouTube channel, and oh my, it’s amazing. The video I’m sharing today is Artists vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turles (yes, the artists they were named after), but really, you should just hang out on this channel for a while because it’s hilarious.

And now, for your daily dose of cute, something that popped up on my Facebook feed that I just had to share.

You can join us for Mirth and Music Monday over at the linky. Stop by and see what else is on offer. 🙂

#MirthMusicMon – Happy New Year!

It’s the last Mirth and Music Monday for 2014! In some ways, it feels like the year has dragged on forever, and in others, it feels like it was gone in the blink of an eye! I’ve got a pretty awesome year set for next year, and I wish everyone else one just as good.

In light of that, here’s a catchy tune I found on YouTube. I think we can all relate.

In other news, this is my 300th post on this blog! Woo! *raises champagne glass*

The MMM linky is over here. Join in if you like! 😀 Have a great new years!

#MirthMusicMon – Thank you for shopping at Volde-mart.

So last Saturday I was eating breakfast and watching Saturday Disney, as one does. I feel that since my days of watching Saturday Disney, the quality of the shows has gone down, but maybe it’s just that I grew up. Anyway. There was one show called Random As, which was essentially a sketch show, and this sketch was on it. Apologies for the bad quality; there were only two versions on YouTube and both were people aiming their camera at the screen.

And on a more traditional note, here’s another one from King’s College in Cambridge.

As one last holiday video, the quality of this one is pretty terrible, but I’m mostly sharing it for the cloak-swishing. I’m not sure when this was. Hugh Jackman looks very young.

The link-up tool for Mirth and Music Monday is over here, and we would love to have you! Feel free to join in! I’m going to go now, and will probably be back on Wednesday, but in case I don’t see you there, have a wonderful holiday season (whatever you do or don’t celebrate).

#MirthMusicMon – Best Flashmob Ever!

It’s only a bit over a week until Christmas, so I thought today and next Monday, I would share some Christmasy videos. For the first video… this might look like an ordinary German supermarket, but check out what the staff do for their customers!

And now for something a little more traditional. How awesome is the King’s College carols service every year?

It’s very easy to join in on Mirth and Music Monday – just post a video or two, then link up with us here. I’m off now, but there’ll be another short story up some time today.
