It’s time for WWW Wednesday! This blog hop is hosted by Sam over at A World Of Words. Link up with us by commenting on Sam’s post for this week, and just answer the three questions.
What have you recently finished reading?
I finished Everless by Sara Holland and while it was still a little bit tropey, it did subvert other tropes and completely sucked me in! I’ll be looking forward to the next book.
I also read Mr Stink by David Walliams. This is a children’s book very much in the style of Roald Dahl (complete with illustrations by Quentin Blake). I liked it but I wasn’t quite sure what it was trying to say. I’ll have a review up on Friday.
Two reviews this week! My review of Everless went up here and I also reviewed False Awakening, an urban fantasy by Cassandra Page, here.
What are you currently reading?
I haven’t had a lot of time for reading this past week as I’ve been on holidays with a couple of friends, but I have been reading The Empty Grave (Lockwood & Co. #5) by Jonathan Stroud. Feeling a bit bittersweet as I have been following this series since it began and this is the last book. Also, last time I finished a series by Jonathan Stroud, I threw my Kindle across the room (the ending wasn’t bad at all, just gave me a lot of feelings), so I’m a little apprehensive.
I am still going with The Hospital by the River by Catherine Hamlin. I haven’t had much time for audio books but I’ll be getting back to my longer walks tomorrow so I will be able to make some more progress with this one.
What do you think you’ll read next?
So I requested some ARCs from NetGalley that I thought were not going to be published until June and October, only to discover after I was accepted that they were actually published last June and October (and are still available to request?!). And also there was that time on Sunday when I went to the library and accidentally came away with six books. Which is all to say, I really don’t know, but I have plenty to choose from!
What are you reading this week?
I came across Everless last year and fell in love with the cover!! Isn’t it lovely? ❤ I'm sure I've already added it to my tbr list but I'd better check…
I hope the Lockwood series ends in a satisfying way. A couple of years ago I finished a 17-book series, so I know how bittersweet this is.

It’s such a pretty cover. *strokes it*
Oh, wow, 17 books! That definitely would have been bittersweet!
Thanks for stopping by, Sarina!

I’ve looked at Mr. Stink a few times as my kids (and I) love Roald Dahl books, but I’m not a lover of David Walliams so have never picked it up.
I’d love to go to the library and pick up 6 books, but my TBR list is that long I might be waiting a while before I can do that.

Yeah, I was interested in Mr Stink after seeing the TV version on over Christmas, but I was a bit confused by its message. It seemed to be saying you shouldn’t just walk on past the homeless people you see, but at the same time seemed to be making a lot of fun of the titular character? I wasn’t quite sure what to make of it.

Lol @ Everless is tropey! I never read it myself but I believe you. YA is not always my cup of tea.

Yeah, I mean, I’m a big fan of YA, but at the same time, it can get tiresome!

I’ve been meaning to grab a copy of Everless! Glad to know it was enjoyable.
I have the first in Stroud’s series at home (I loved his Bartimaeus series) so I’m excited to dive into Lockwood this year! Hope the ending satisfies 🙂

Bartimaeus was so good! (Though that was the one that made me throw my Kindle). I hope you enjoy Lockwood! Some of the books were better than others but it is definitely worth sticking with.

Hmm, ‘accidently’ came away with six books? I mean, did they hold you down and force them on you? Did you actually mean to borrow eight? Were the books disguised as something else and you only realised they were books when you got home, lol?
I love how we make excuses for bookish acquisitions. Last week I tried (unsuccessfully, I might add) to persuade my husband that a book that arrived in the post didn’t count as a new book because….I won it as a prize.

They were just… you know… calling out to me. “Reeeaaadddd meeeee, Eeeeeeemillllllyyyyyy, reeeeaddddddd meeeeeeeee!” How can I say no to that? Of course, I may end up returning half of them unread, but we’ll see how it goes!
I love your reasoning! I would totally have bought that argument. XD

I can understand that. I have books on my shelves I’m convinced are thinking sadly ‘When are you going to read me?’

I’ve had that happen on NetGalley too where I thought a book was out later this year and it turns out it was for last year. Hope whichever library book you decide to read first ends up being a good read 🙂

I thought I was doing a good job only requesting things that I didn’t have to worry about for a bit! Oh well. 🙂

I’m felt pretty much the same about Everless. It does have a lot of the usual tropes and you can pretty much see what’s coming a mile away but there is enough in it that’s unique that it keeps you reading. I also just really liked the authors writing style.

I figured out pretty quickly that Liam would turn out to not be Evil, but I did like how the relationship with Roan didn’t pan out the way I was expecting it to. I really liked her writing style, too, so I’m looking forward to more.

Yeah the Roan story in general (not just relationship wise) didn’t pan out the way I was expecting either. Definitely a few surprises despite it being tropey.

I’m curious about Everless! The cover definitely is one to keep staring at haha. And it looks like you’ll be having lots of new titles to choose from! I wouldn’t have guessed titles that old would still have been available on NG either… Although sometimes they do put older books (read 2016 or before) on there as well. Happy reading!

I’m glad I’m not the only one that gets caught out by misleading publication dates on NG – sounds like you have plenty of choice for your next read though.
