If you’re anything like me, the movie Mary Poppins was a staple of your childhood. I may have ended up a little more enthusiastic than many, as in the past few years, I have also seen the musical and read the first three books (they started getting repetitive after that so I stopped). I was also familiar with the rivalry between P. L. Travers, who wrote said books, and Walt Disney, even prior to the release of the recent movie Saving Mr Banks, which is about the two weeks Travers spent in LA with the team behind the movie. Being made by Disney Studios, the movie of course has a Disney Happy Ending, which was not the case in real life. However, even for one such as I who thought the movie maybe should have been made by a different, less biased studio (obviously Disney was never going to depict Uncle Walt in any kind of negative light), this video of Tom Hanks, Emma Thompson, Julie Andrews and Dick van Dyke launching into a rousing rendition of “Let’s Go Fly A Kite” at the movie’s premiere has to give a case of the warm fuzzies.
This is going to be one of my typical “love you and leave you” posts (I argue this video covers both the music and the mirth 😛 ), as I really should spend the rest of the time before I go to bed either writing or catching up on my fellow bloggers. So goodnight!
That’s great Emily. I loved that movie too when I was growing up. Haven’t watched it in a while though. Happy Monday! (or maybe it’s Tuesday Down Under??!!) 🙂

Oh, that’s lovely! It makes me want to watch Mary Poppins again. Glad I have it on DVD. I might see Saving Mr Banks this coming weekend.

🙂 Cool. I don’t know about Walt Disney himself, but a lot of the hardcore Disney fans in Southern California (where I grew up) REALLY dislike Michael Eisner and his successor. I hear tell, even the cleanliness of the parks deteriorated after Disney himself died. 😦
